Emmanuel Fokitis Received his PhD in Experimental High Energy Physics from the University of Notre Dave in USA in 1976, where he participated in Experiments in Fermi Laboratory and Brookhaven National Lab. He then worked as a faculty member at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) from 1976 till 2012. He served there as Lecturer, Assistant, Associate and Full Professor. . He coordinated several research programs, namely, (a) X–ray powder diffractometer, with high speed and spatial resolution based on silicon technology. (b) ?pplications of Optical Technology on Ophthalmic Lenses and Scientific Instruments, (c) Research and Development for prototype sources for general lighting: New materials for development of efficient and environmentally friendly electrical discharges, and study of operational modes and parameter space for lamps including a variety of active media such as Hg, Xe and N2. (d) Techniques for Precision Measurements in Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays using Extensive Air Showers – ?nteractions with Earth Magnetic Field.
The emphasis of his research work in the last 30 years has been in: Optical Precision Measurements, High Resolution Optical Spectroscopy based on Faby-Perot Interferometers. He implemented at LEP DELPHI experiment a Fabry-Perot Inteferometer based refractometer which was recording the refractivities in the far ultraviolet of gas radiators of the Ring Imaging Cerenkov detectors of the experiment for 3 years. During 2008 -2012 he developed a High Spectral Resolutin LIDAR for UV region. He has published more than 400 papers , quite a few of them in Optics and Spectroscopy. He is currently Emeritus Professor of Physics at NTUA
